Things to do IN Hendricks County Indiana
About This Road Trip

All Sorts of Family Fun
Get a little crafty at The Tie Dye Lab, where everything is provided for a do-it-yourself experience. You’ll create a colorful t-shirt, hat, bandana or other article to take home — and leave the mess behind. Enjoy the great outdoors at McCloud Nature Park, with hiking trails, birdwatching, an interactive nature center and art gallery, and great photo ops by the 100-year-old iron truss bridge spanning Big Walnut Creek. You're guaranteed grins and giggles at Splash Island, a Caribbean-themed outdoor waterpark with three waterslides, a leisure river and interactive children’s play area.

Time for Some In-Person Shopping
Stroll five acres of superbly manicured gardens to get inspiration before buying your own landscaping and decor items at Avon Gardens. At Beasley’s Orchard, they grow a variety of fruits and vegetables, which are harvested by hand so you can buy what’s fresh at their Old Barn Retail Market. Beasley’s specializes in many kinds of apples, available mid-summer through fall, when they also have hayrides, a corn maze and lots of activities. You’ll find your favorite brands at The Shops at Perry Crossing, an open-air shopping center with 40+ stores and restaurants plus a movie theater.

Retro Dining and Pizza
They didn’t just make Oasis Diner look like a 1950s restaurant — it is one! Shipped via rail from New Jersey to Plainfield in 1954, it’s now one of fewer than five historical diners to remain on the Historic National Road (U.S. 40). Choose a booth or counter seating or sit on the patio as you enjoy breaded tenderloin, hand-dipped shakes and more. Fans of the Andy Griffith Show love trying Aunt Bee’s Fried Chicken or other home-cooked meals at Mayberry Diner. Check out the memorabilia, watch an episode or two and pose by the sheriff’s car. Another old building — an 1890s doctor’s office — houses Perillo’s Pizza, where a chef hailing from Palermo, Italy serves authentic pizza, pasta and baked sandwiches.

Suds Specialists
Looking for a local brew? Look no further than Brew Link Brewing Company, Indiana’s newest brewery and brewpub with a full lunch and dinner menu. They always have 24 beers on tap, and there’s live music regularly with family- and pet-friendly seating available outdoors. They also sell brewing supplies for those who want to make their own at home. Craft beer pairs well with mouthwatering pulled pork, chicken and ribs at Rusted Silo Southern BBQ House & Brew House. Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, this popular Lizton eatery features well over 100 beers and ciders at a time. The owner, a former Walt Disney chef with more than 25 years of experience, sources ingredients from local farmers.
